If I recall when Obama was talking about cutting back in both Iraq and Afghanistan during the election, the republicans were screaming bloody murder that he didn't know squat about foreign affairs and if he did that, the world would end.
These are inherited wars. And you just can't pull out the troops. Let's face it, there will never be peace in Iraq with three factions trying to run the country. It's never going to happen. The best we can do is pull out as quickly as we can turning everyting over to who ever is in power. But odds are it's going to be Viet Nam II.
Afghanistan wouldn't be a problem now if we had finished what we started by going after the taliban and the money they were throwing at terrrorists. But we had to go after some guy not giving us a problem because he might have had wmds. Yeah, that all made sense to me. Now we have to basically start over in Afghanistan because while we were busy in Iraq, they started taking control again.
I would have thought less of Obama is he didn't listen to his military advisors and try and finish what we started. At least there is a timeline. Whether that pans out, who knows.
Innocents unfortunately die in wars. But there would be far fewer of them if we had stayed the course and finished what we started without interruption.
I am anti-war, but it's a disservice to our soldiers and the freedom loving people of those countries to abandon them now.
Inherited wars suck. Ask LBJ.
