I don't know how many nukes we had between 2001 & 2009 but I assume they have been decreasing due to previous treaties. We still have too many nukes to absolutely destroy the planet or is the deep seated hatred for Obama on this board more important?

... so you dont know.

(yawn) there always have been, and there always will be. Nevertheless, I prefer a policy of not going around sticking pins in rattlesnakes just to prove how dangerous they are.

Theres no talking to them, no nothing....why?....Cause they will never understand and if you show any weakness ("Obama: I will not use nukes on a country that doesnt nuke us!!!!")....get it!
Yes, I get it. And by and large, I like it.

The "evil empire" took a 'no first strike vow' 30 years ago; we refused to reciprocate. This is merely bringing ourselves back into the civilized fold.

This thread has no basis. It's amazing how so many people make statements as though they were facts, when the truth is that there is no basis for them at all.

This OP provides no source. And the reason is simple.
China has NOT agreed to tougher sanctions. And if China ever does, you can be sure that the sanctions will be no more than a slap on the wrist. Worthless. Worse than worthless because Obama will make it look as though he is doing something about the Iranian nukes, when in fact it will be insignificant.

Obama has accomplished NOTHING regarding Iranian nukes. The centrifuges churn on. A-jad and the mullah's just continuously give the US the finger. And for that the OP calls Obama and his team "serious winners"??? The ignorance here is astounding.

Kudos to Obama for showing leadership and a big raspberry to the haters!
Since Ukraine happens to have the largest uranium mine in Eastern Europe........

China signed on? Really?

Summit agrees to secure nuclear materials in four years - Yahoo! News (http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20100413/pl_afp/usnuclearsummit - broken link)

Quote:
China's foreign ministry meanwhile reaffirmed its long-held skepticism about the need for sanctions, saying that "pressure and sanctions cannot fundamentally solve" the standoff.

In his address to the summit, Hu gave few clues, saying China opposed nuclear weapons proliferation, while also underlining that China backs "the equal right of all countries to the peaceful use of nuclear energy."
Please provide a link that details the agreement with China.

Back up your "claims" with evidence.

All in all, it looks like it was a productive summit. I would have preferred more details, however, I am encouraged by the overall cooperation:

Obama hasn't sold crap! All he has done is reduce the arsenal of the unGodly amount of nukes we have. You almost sound like you are terrified that even with a 30% reduction we won't have enough nukes to protect us! Don't worry because after a first strike on the US none of us will be around to bother with your unfounded fear.
Long live the cockroaches!

Today's big stories from the nuclear industry:

Iran's Bushehr nuclear plant to be launched this summer - Putin
The first reactor of the Bushehr nuclear power plant in southwestern Iran should
be launched this summer, Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said on Thursday. The launch of Iran's first nuclear power plant, which Russian specialists are completing under a cloud of suspicion over the nature of Tehran’s nuclear program, has been repeatedly put back in recent years. "The first unit of the Iranian nuclear power plant in Bushehr should be launched as soon as the summer," Putin said during a video conference in the southern Russian city of Volgodonsk.
