And you all wonder why people say you are anti-military.

Raise the same thread in regard to union wages, and then try to make the claim that you are a supporter of the union.

I hope you're working, and your employer knows you would love to have lower wages and benefits.

Well, remember, logic and neoconism don't go together.

Completely false.

41% is spent on medicare and social security, while 21% is spent on the military. The military is the largest single expense, however.

It sure sound good, for those who present false data, to deride the military and cheer for yet larger and larger social program expenditures. Keep in mind that these expenses are even prior to Obama care.

Now - how much goes to the VA? To retirees and their benefits?

Since the article did not list any sources, I would like to offer evidence as to why there are factual discrepancies in the article;

Meanwhile, the military share of the budget works out to about $1.6 trillion.
That is a false statement, the Social Security Trust Fund was completely detached from the federal budget under the 1983 amendments. This means it only appeared under the unified budget.

This should be fun..

I went to the OMB website and directly looked at the defense section, which even has a nice easy to read rundown of the defense budget.

$548.9 billion is provided for a base budget

$33 billion for supplemental spending .. (NOT $200 billion)

$159.3 billion for "overseas contingency operations" (Iraq & Afghanistan) .. (NOT $200 billion)

The total amount - which includes discretionary spending and all other DoD spending - amounts to $718 billion.

But don't take my word for it, read it from the president's own budget:

http://www.whitehouse.gov/omb/budget/fy2011/assets/defense.pdf (broken link)

Or read about any other spending category that suits your fancy:

FY 2011 President's Budget - Overview

By the way, the FY 2011 budget is $3.8 trillion:

http://www.whitehouse.gov/omb/budget...ets/tables.pdf

Sorry, but $718 billion is not 53.3% of $3.8 trillion. But we do spend a whopping 4% of GDP on the military.
