The measure, which would continue added unemployment benefits and other expired federal programs through May, will restore aid to thousands of Americans who had exhausted their benefits or whose eligibility was expiring. The legislation means that those out of work can receive up to 99 weeks of unemployment pay in some states. It will restore benefits to anyone who may have lost pay during a two-week interruption in the program.

Democrats said that many out of work Americans were unable to find jobs and that delaying what for some is their sole income in a political fight over spending was unconscionable. They say the money should be treated as an emergency expense.

No surprises there.

I've got a friend who proudly lives off unemployment welfare. He boasts about how great it is to get the free money from the U.S. while living in the Mexican border area. He crosses the border only to pick up his check.

If you want a 10$ hour job you must get the education to back it up- people without YEARS of a skilled trade or without a degree just dont deserve 10$/hour. Min wage is already too high and is part of the reason why cost of everything is up.

I have no problem with providing unemployment for say 6mths, but after that it should be stopped. There is no reason why someone should be able to withdraw on unemployment benefits for a year or more
I agree man. I have a friend who does not even know how to read and write. After losing his $40 hour job without any skill, he said he will not accept any job that pay less than 10-15 an hour. Instead, he is collecting his $400 weekly checks. With that he bought himself a cool new Mercedes. Did I tell that my friend is an illegal immigrant from Mexico?

I am not against extending UI per se. My biggest complaint is it is just another added debt.

Having recieved UI I can tell you, the system is easily scammed.

The original Stimulas program money has not been spent. Why do we need another stimulas bill?

IF they are going to pass another bill, why can't they take money from somewhere else in the government to pay for it.

Having worked for the government, I can tell you there are many places to pull this money from.

We don't need any more debt.

I think it is the same guy I know. Is he the guy whose Mexican grandmother who never even set foot on U.S. soil but lives off of food stamps that she got by cheating the system?

I am currently employed- knocking wood.

I was unemployed for about six months last year. I was a mortgage loan officer for about 10 years and then I became a head hunter which was a frying pan to fire situation as things turned out. I completely understand what it means to go from the penthouse to the dog house to the outhouse. I sell medical equipment now and it's a great job. Hopefully Barrry care won't sink this ship- again...knocking wood
I just can't get on board with extension after extension on unemployment. It makes people lose their incentive and sense of urgency to get a new job. I know as well as anyone how hard it is out there- trust me. However, there are some people who could be working who aren't and just riding extension after extension when there are jobs available. It may not be a job they want but if their benes were not extended maybe they'd take it! Stimulus funds were not meant for unemploymet. I don't like to see funds going places that they were never meant to go. See social security disability. How's the social security system looking these days? How's the future outlook on that??

Bingo. Pay people not to work and you can bet they will not work.

Uh yeah.

I would gladly give back that tax "break" if the stimulus had never been passed in the first place. It's gonna cost me far more in the long run than the measly 12 bucks a week I got.
