I think that most of the Cuban Democrats are the are the new arrivals, and/or the ones who have been brought up and educated in a communist regime.
As a former south floridian, do you know how silly that sounds, or should I say, a bunch of Republispin.

Who are less sympathetic to communism than those who rode in rafts to escape it (see newly arrived)? Second, newly arrived aren't citizens yet soo, why would they be Democratic supporters to begin with? Of course admitting that second and third generation Cubans, like even Jorge Mas's son who endorsed Obama favor Democrats wouldn't be a proper Republispin talking point!

Not news.
It's about CONTEXT. Cuban American in Miami hosts fundraiser for Democrat. Maybe it's really not well known outside of South Florida that the Cuban exiles and Cuban Americans for many, many years ran politics in Miami. And, as someone else state, the Cuban exiles HATED Democrats because of JFK and the Bay of Pigs. Actually, there are many in South Florida today who STILL HATE JFK.

This story means nothing out of CONTEXT.

Take your time and read more slowly.
I understand WHY the locals are upset. They can be upset if they want. Fact is, she is free to do what she wants and there is nothing they can do about it.

And many of her Cuban-American neighbors are up in arms over the fundraiser, which is expected to bring in $2.5M for the DNC. The hefty sum seems particularly disturbing to members of the traditionally-Republican community, especially as the Dems and the GOP continue to battle over financial reform to save the country from economic collapse.
"People have been very upset," Ninoska Perez-Castellon, a director of the Cuban Liberty Council told the Florida Sun Sentinel. "It's one thing to have the ear of the president, but what's shocking is that they are doing a fundraiser for Democrats."

Up until this point, the Estefans have claimed to be non-partisan and have spoken out against the Castro regime.

Gloria and Emilio Estefan should realize that Gloria Estefan only has a continued following with the Cuban community. It is a stupid business decision on their part.

You have to live in Miami to understand how angry and backward many of these Cubans are. I often wonder why they couldn't have directed their anger at the regime in Cuba to help overthrow it (as was the case in most other former Communist nations), rather than come here and be stuck in this angry "hate Castro and everyone who isn't Cuban" timewarp. Cubans run Miami and IMO, they run it badly (corruption is rife, as is Medicare fraud).

Partisanship aside, Estefan did nothing wrong and certainly nothing to be branded a "Communist" by these idiots. Again, if they are so angry, they should simply go home and help their people back in Cuba and direct their anger at the Cuban government (Miami might actually become a more livable place if that were to happen, who knows?).

Those old cubans are all too reactionary, right wing and refusing to see the good things that the Dems have done for them. First of all, it was President Johnson who instituted the dry foot, wet foot policy that they still use today. President Carter allowed the marielitos to come to the US in the late 70s. Pres Obama has allowed visits to Cuba by cuban americans who wish to see family over there, a move that was harshly disallowed under Bush. they need to adapt to the 21st century and stop living in the past.
