Yeah, I saw they were closing those. The teacher's union and the DOE had been in negotiations about these things for months.
(And just to clarify, I think Beck talked about these on his show the 14th and the announcement that a UFT/DOE agreement had been reached came on the 15th. While it's fun to think it was Beck's doing, it had been in the works for a while...)
I first heard about these things 2 years ago on This American Life. It was a bizarre little loophole, and did no one any good. Good riddance.

You have to watch that Beck. He didn't spend a lot of time on Van Jones when Jones was kicked of the bus. I got a real kick out of this deal since I had heard about those places when you did and sure enough he made a lot of people aware of them that probably weren't before.
Probably he didn't have a lot to do with this outcome but much can happen in 24 hours.
To attribute Beck had something to do with ending the rubber rooms in NYC is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. This issue was first brought up a couple years ago and got more focus a few months back.
NY is getting rid of rubber rooms? Is that why I've suddenly seen teacher recruitment seminars for NYC public schools down here in Atlanta?
