I keep hearing that we got out of the Depression because we spent money gearing up for World War II.

Would a massive spending spree help spark our economy?

Or should we cut back on spending?

A great question. And as one of my favorite economists once said...yes...and...no.

Naturally it's a little of both. The question is what ratio is best.

It's hard to spend when you don't have any money

The problem with us is if we keep spending our way out of recession, we might end up with a Zimbabwe situation where your most basic food items cost like $10,000,000 worst case scenario. That's called hyperinflation

The sad part is Bush did this repeatedly, and no cries of socialism or deficit spending. If you weren't with him, you were with the terrorists I guess.

Makes you wonder sometimes how partisan these nut cases are.

What the hell do you think those checks the government sent out to all the tax payers were?

Sprinkles on your ice cream?

The massive spending spree has gone on way to long
and yes we MUST cut the spending !

Prior to WWll nobody was working but where do you
think the money came from to pay for WWll

Think about it this way, every time the government
spends $1.00 it's cost you $5.00 and where does
the government get it's money from ?

It worked well because we won the war. I don't think we're going to win this one.

Private spending will lead us out of the recession.Government spending only increrases deficits which have to be paid forlater which slows growth as government has to txa more and less investment. The wars beihg faught now wil not actaulyl mean much ;they are drops in teh bucket compred to spending inWWII. Rememeerb that every thing was cut to spend mopney then producing goods to fight the war. That lead to lower domestic consumption;higher output of war materials;fewer epopel to do it ;so high employment rate amung those left to fill tehm that included women in many jobs for the first time.

Yes. We don't have to worry about becoming Greece... it's one of the benefits of being the world's superpower.

It was announced on the news yesterday that for the first 9 months of the fiscal year of the U.S. government, President Obama has spent $1,000,000,000,000 [$5,000,000,000 a day] more than the I.R.S has collected. How's all that spending our way out of a recession workin' out for ya?
