Around 1936 they implemented a liquor tax here in PA to pay for the Johnstown flood. By 1942 they had collected enough to cover the costs. A few years back they raised it to 18%.
It's the nuisance taxes and indirect taxes where they really get you, they never go away and a lot of times you might not even know what or how much you're paying.
Gas tax will be going up soon, they haven't raised it in like 2 decades and it's not a percentage.
