I wish I was intelligent enough to create this analogy, alas my pea brain could've never conjured up something this fascinating. This is from a quebec forum on skyscrapercity:

Income Taxes Explained:
Suppose that every day, ten men go out for beer and the bill for all ten comes to $100. If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this:

Moderator cut: Provide a link instead of copying everything here, please

For those who understand, no explanation is needed. For those who do not understand, no explanation is possible.

This is so true, it isn't even funny. But alas the "RICH" Must pay more, because Millions on welfare depend on them. To bad People don't understand just how Biased,Jealious, the truly poor are. If they can't have it you shouldn't either. {Or even worse} you should support us, What a crock! Or for that matter the not so truly poor. If Most could Take blame for there own actions, instead of blaming the rich Life would just go on.

Most of the taxes are actually spent on supporting corrupt bankers, agribusiness and military contractors that pay huge bribes (the oil industry sent $200 million! on lobbying last year) to keep the money flowing. The really poor get very, very little.

The trick with the progressive tax is that the rich guy has much, much more to protect and should pay in proportion to the value of the property protected. Besides even the most generous welfare system only semi supports one in ten so only one guy gets to drink for free and the rich guy is living off the profit from his government contracting so he will never get off the real gravy train.

As simple and basic as this is , you will get those that respond with some double convoluted rational of why it is not so!

Also, the wealthy (the achievers) generally pay for their own security via Home Security Services, insurance, body guards, and/or private security firms. I believe that you would find that most police and EMS vehicles are sent to the poorer neighborhoods. So, by your logic, the poor should actually pay more taxes.

One of the great fallacies is that the wealthy actually earned their wealth by being “achievers”. The majority did not. They had the foresight to choose wealthy parents and the luck to outlive them. Like winning the lottery in advance of buying a ticket.

The majority of EMS vehicles go to poor neighborhood because there are many. Many more people there

Where's the inverted example for regressive taxes with the poor men paying $59 dollars and the rich man nothing?
