When I carry a gun, you cannot deal with me by force.
Dear Maj. L. Caudill USM C (Ret),
You are an idiot.
The very reason why there is a Marine Corps to be retired from is because everybody has a damned gun and because they have a gun, they figure that they don't have to reason with anybody to begin with, as anyone with the slightest knowledge of the history of the Marine Corps can attest.

When I carry a gun, you cannot deal with me by force. You have to use reason and try to persuade me, because I have a way to negate your threat or employment of force.

It doesn't stop people from shooting at other people who have guns. Happens all the time.
The idea that the Gun caused civilization to stay steady, is asinine.
Tell that to the Romans, the Egyptians, the Mayans, the Aztecs, the Kelts, China, Japan, etc.
They all had civilizations long before guns were invented.
All guns did, was to make it easier to kill people. Just a newer development in weapon technology.
If anything has prevented war, on a global scale since 1945, its the atomic bomb. When nations have the power to destroy one another, and the entire world in the process, fighting no longer seems to be an option.
I would like to encourage all gang bangers to carry a large caliber semi auto pistol. They should learn how to use, holding them sideways for example, them from the movies. They should never practice using these guns.
The results of the first fight with properly trained civilian would be interesting to observe. I would not want to be part of the surrounding scenery.
Lol, this is something you'd hear in a bar from some old man in the corner.
Being forced to feel you have to carry a gun and all the baggage that comes with it is not civilization, it's a response to chaos.
The only 'baggage' I carry with my gun is extra ammunition. My situation is quite different from a person who lives in a city, unless you live in a pretty nasty neighborhood anyway. Fact is, some people need to carry a firearm, some don't. But is a matter of personal choice at the end of the day.
