I think we should thank them for the offer and see what they could do. It is past time that we developed sane relationships with Iran. We could start with accepting help and apologize for assassinating Mosedeck (SP?) and installing the Shah.
They aren't trying to be nice guys here, they know the U.S. will refuse, its just a political move. What technology could Iran offer, since all of their wells are on land and were drilled by U.S. oil companies.

Exactly. Iran's off-shore oil drilling experience is what?
This is just more political grand-standing. There is nothing of substance here. No legitimate help in the wings. If the offer was legit, they'd be talking to BP, not making loud public comments aimed at the US Government.
And the US had an ulterior motive in Haiti. So, the difference is?
To what are you referring?
It might also be noted that Haiti is a couple hundred miles off our mainland shores. Big difference between that and someplace that's literally half-way around the world.

Iran has 40 working oil fields, and 13 of them are off shore. Any involvement by US companies was strictly to drain off the profits to shareholders, without a single American getting his hands dirty.
A lot of posters seem to place pride above progress by rejecting an offer of help. A rational person would accept the offer and check to see if it were applicable. A self centered fool would reject it without checking. Fixing the problem is more important than foolish pride.
I am no sort of oil rig man, but it seems that not one platform is free floating. I can not determine depth of water from the link, which isn't any surprise.
I have seen free floating platforms before and none in the 4 areas are.
At a depth of 5,000 feet, every thing that needs be done, can only be done remote. No man can go that deep and surive a second.
As I understand it that 5,000 ft is just to the gulf floor, and the drilling seems to total at -18,000 ft below sea level.
I am curiuos as to how anyone can stop this leak. Iran well may have some answer, but so might anyone else.
My question is who's answer is the fastest? Thankfully this isn't my mess. I don't know how to stop this leak.
