Let's have Rush sit down and snort and slop his way through a tureen of terrapin soup made from all those dead sea turtles now washing up on the beaches of the gulf coast. Then we can tell him that puking his guts out is "natural" and "will take care of itself."

Safety Device Questioned in '04

Safety Device Questioned in '04 - WSJ.com

Federal regulators learned in a 2004 study that a vital piece of oil-drilling safety equipment may not function in deep-water seas but did nothing to bolster industry requirements.

The equipment, called shear rams, is supposed to seal off out-of-control oil and gas wells by pinching the pipe closed and cutting it.
As oil companies drilled wells in deeper water, the shear rams had to become stronger and manufacturers responded. But the federally commissioned study questioned whether enough was known about the force required to shear off a pipe at these depths to set proper standards.
It is strange that these "safety" devices were likely to fail, has been known since 2004, and the standards not updated.

Talking Cheney/Haliburton Sabotage Oil Rig To Embarrass Obama.

Still smarting from criticism of the Bush Cheney response to Katrina, Cheney ordered Haliburton to fake a blowout on the Deep Horizon!

Of course such an accusation is beyond ridiculous but certainly no more ridiculous than the other conspiracy threads making the rounds.

So, join me in coming up with your own ridiculous conspiracy theory.

Goldman Sachs did it, to cause an oil panic and run-up in crude prices. As they say in Spanish: Via Con D'Oro! (go with the money!).

Do you think they are shorting the clean up effort as well?

Obama did it to turn people against oil and force us to enter the brave new world of down graded expectations and electric cars (for which the technology doesn't yet exist).

Palin did it to make Alakan oil worth more.

The most logical CT would be that

1) A radical eco-terrorist org sabotaged the rig,to make Obama take back ( as he did) the reinstatement of some oil drilling...

2) Or a N. Korea submarine succeeded in an...overseas suicide mission...

Personally, the N.Korea sub seeems almost rational & possible to happen...
