Everything is a story in the entertainment world.
How you marry, what you buy, who you date and your sexual adventures.
What else would these sorry excuses for writes talk about.
ART, MUSIC and reflection on the work... NO that is boring people are more interested in crap then using their brain.
‘Single White Female’ singer Chely Wright: ‘I’m gay’ « Entertainment This seems to a trend...........when you are no longer relevant because of your music/acting etc.........switch sides and try to get another 15 out of it. Seems like you made it YOUR business...I never heard of this...thanx for being so homophobicly nosey!
Wrong. Per the OP's admission, the thread is about the hypocricy of gay people saying:
"Stay out of my bedroom (government)" whilst some gays make announcements that they are gay, thus making their "bedroom" public.
The OP failed to understand the distinction.
Well, I'm not going to re-read this thread, but the ACTUAL first post made the OP is strictly about a singer no longer being relevant and "switching sides" for more fame.
And THAT is what I believe Wright is doing . . . just jumping on a popular (for now) bandwagon as a feeble attempt at fame because she's nothing more than a has-been who wants attention.
That's all I'll post on this topic . . . she's a bore, I don't care about who/what she is or about her book or CD or anything else about her.
There are plenty of truly talented people out there who DESERVE a shot at fame without having to use some kind of cheap, pity ploy based on personal and unnecessary details about their sexuality.
I see this issue as being 2-fold, and I think both sub-issues are pertinent to the discussion:
1. A celebrity revealing personal information in a public format, and
2. A gay person revealing their sexuality publicly
Issue 1 - A celebrity revealing personal information in a public format
Without straying too far off topic (but just to briefly explain my statement above), it is reasonable to say that CELEBRITIES (not just GAY celebrities - celebrities in general) tend to be fairly hypocritical in their relationship with the media/their fans.
It is true that we often hear celebrities decrying tabloids, media, outspoken fans for somehow infringing on/judging their personal lives. They chose a public profession - it doesn't mean we all get to scrutinize what they do behind closed doors, but it does mean that their job is to be in the spotlight - it's only logical that some of that spotlight will bleed over into at least part of their personal lives. And we all know that the very same celebrities who cry to Larry King about the paparazzi invading their personal lives actually (at times) work WITH the paparazzi to stage certain "candid" photos, or plan with their publicist to stage a relationship with a co-star just to boost an upcoming movie's "buzz." That is extremely hypocritical, and extremely common in the entertainment business.
Issue 2 - A gay person revealing their sexuality publicly
In defense of Chely's decision to come out - let's all be honest, the media's (and tabloid-consuming fans') favorite subject is love/sex life, so when a celebrity seems oddly un-paired with a member of the opposite sex, or oddly quiet about matters of love/sex, the FIRST question that gets asked is "Are they gay?"
So to be fair to Chely (and all other celebrities in her position) - its always the MEDIA who bring it up first, and the media wouldn't care about such things if gaydar-pinging headlines didn't sell millions of magazines or get millions of web hits a day. Meaning - the media would stop reporting it if we would all stop Googling it (thereby satisfying part of the OP's request to not hear about someone else's love life).
To the OP's original point about gay people in general being hypocritical about revealing personal information - until the LGBT community is given (by law) full civil rights, and (really the bigger issue here) until they are also given at least a modicum of broad societal acceptance, their sexuality will continue to be message board/water cooler/tabloid fodder - on BOTH sides (on the side of the LGBT community and on the side of we simple heteros who are trying desperately to wrap our brains around the conundrum of men who don't like big knockers and women who don't care about big guns).
Having never been in that position, I can only speculate that the reason an LGBT person would want to announce their sexuality publicly is to 1. Provide themselves with a therapeutic pressure valve release for something that has been surpressing their existence for years, maybe a lifetime, and 2. To advance the cause of societal acceptance of who they are (i.e. to make it "OK" to talk about such things). There was a time, not so long ago (some would argue still), when "gay talk" was verboten. The United States, being one of the most sexually and culturally uptight "progressive" nations in the world, is still struggling with the growing pains of getting out of its awkward adolescent stage. As a society, we seem to have a hard time not giggling like a 13 year-old girl everytime someone says the word "penis," much less having a meaningful and productive discussion about sexuality, gender, and modern gender roles.
Until we live in a world where a gay man doesn't have to worry about being tied to the bumper of someone's truck and dragged to his death because of who he is, "The Gay" will still be a wonderment that we all have to talk about and Google until everyone actually stops caring what others do behind closed doors rather than ranting about not caring what others do behind closed doors.

For people who are supposedly disgusted by homosexuality, some of you sure like to talk about it a lot.
You are right, I'll tell you what......lets both stop talking about it completely, no more threads or posts on the issue !! deal?
