BP is not a US corporation, so even if we were like Norway our laws would not apply to foreign companies. The Horizon oil rig was also outside the 24 nautical mile territorial waters, and as far as I know, we as a nation cannot impose our environmental and federal laws on oil drilling that far out to sea.
That is what seperates them from us and why it would not work here.
Ameerican government is not efficient and would not run our oil businesses effectively. It would be a disaster for the taxpayers.
Well, it's worth mentioning that Statoil is a regular company, it's just primarily owned by the government. The inefficiency of government bureaucracy that we have here in Norway too doesn't bleed into the oil sector because it's run like an independent company.

Then why don't every Norwegian do just that?
I'm well aware that there are massive cultural differences between the two countries, but I'm not sure if I agree that all Americans are inherently lazy.

Maybe the liberals could start more defensive threads about how they are not socialists.
This doesn't make any sense. There is no private mineral ownership in state, federal or international waters.
Are you saying you think it would be a good idea for the Federal government to seize privately held minerals on land or do you think it would be a good idea for the United States Government to nationalize the entire oil & gas industry?
the rig that exploded....was LEASED by BP....previously leased by Royal Dutch Shell...built in 2001 by Hyundai Heavy Industries Shipyard, Ulsan, South Korea
The Corporatists and Polticians feed off of each other.
Of course they would. And why wouldn't they, when they have the power to do so? Corporations are people, aren't they? They have as much right to influence the government and the policies as you do.
