Boycotting Cinco de Mayo to get back at the Mexicans? That's like boycotting a gay pride parade to "get back at gays". Ridiculous.

What's next? Boycotting Martin Luther King Day to get back at blacks? How about boycotting Columbus Day to get back at whites? Silly, silly, silly...

I'm having a quesedilla burger and cold budweiser( Corona sucks). Cinquo De mayo is a non holiday but any excuse for a quesedilla burger.
Mexican flags, puerto rican flags, confederate flags, why bother? Fly a real flag, the Stars and Stripes.

I've never celebrated Ciinco de Mayo. Growing up in south Louisiana in the 70s and 80s, I never even heard of this holiday. Once I did hear of it, I was always working when it was going on. Never found it worthy of asking for a day off to get hammered, heart burn, and stink up the workplace the next day with the after effects of refried beans.

What is Cinco de Mayo? Who cares.

We have New Year's Eve as our excuse to get drunk and do not need another date to justify inebriation.

I don't celebrate it in the first place, since I'm not of Mexican descent.

Let's see: it's May 5, I'm at work and going about my regular daily activities . . .

I guess I'm not boycotting anything.

Tell me again why a victory of the Mexican army in the 1800's should even constitute a holiday fit for celebration in the United States?
For the same reason we celebrate a man who escaped slavery and introduced Christianity to Ireland. Because like the Irish, Mexican-Americans are a festive people that make up a large portion of the U.S. population.

GardenStater... and the meaning is totally lost on even most MExican-Americans. IN the southwest, and all over the nation, it is indeed just an excuse to get drunk, and eat Mexican food.

Didn't people on here insist that SB1070 wasn't based on racism or bigotry? I think making fun of another's culture, or putting down traditions in an environment of anti-illegal immigrant sentiments would probably qualify as such.

very true. some friends of mine from mexico city were amazed at what a big deal it is for some in this country.

which brings us back to the topic: you can't boycott something that you've never bothered noticing before in the first place.
