Christian right leader George Rekers takes vacation with "rent boy" (http://http://www.miaminewtimes.com/2010-05-06/news/christian-right-leader-george-rekers-takes-vacation-with-rent-boy/ - broken link)
"For decades, George Alan Rekers has been a general in the culture wars, though his work has often been behind the scenes. In 1983, he and James Dobson, America's best-known homophobe, formed the Family Research Council, a D.C.-based, rabidly Christian, and vehemently anti-gay lobbying group that has become a standard-bearer of the nation's extreme right wing. Its annual Values Summit is considered a litmus test for Republican presidential hopefuls, and Sean Hannity and Ann Coulter have spoken there. (The Family Research Council would not comment about Rekers's Euro-trip.)"
I don't like this guy, but I see no evidence of impropriety. I hate false allegations from Rekers, but I also hate it from yellow journalists making up a scandal.

Really? Have you visited rentboy.com? I have. There is NO WAY Rekers went to that site to look for an "assistant to carry his luggage." Well.... maybe, but only if Rekers thinks of his genitalia as "luggage."
I do think one can rather easily distinguish the anger and frustration some gay people have towards religious zealots, particularly Christians, and the blissful ignorance of homophobia. There wouldn't be much of the former but for the latter. From my own anecdotal experience, gay people like myself only have a problem with religious people when they seek to limit the rights and liberties of LGBT people because of their own personal beliefs.
The solution is rather simple in theory but difficult in application. If religious zealots don't want to hear about homosexuality and would rather pretend it doesn't exist, then mind your own business and start practicing your religious beliefs instead of improperly using them as a tool to stand in the way of LGBT people seeking basic rights and liberties. That's the only way anyone's going to stop complaining about having anything shoved down their throat. Gay people are not going to just shut up simply because you can't understand them. People need to snap out of it and realize that we are not going to revert back to a time where homosexuality was so shunned that gay people were forced to live their lives in complete secrecy.
See, you jump to unwarranted conclusion and sterotype me because I am a Christian. I am NOT anti-gay and I NEVER post anti gay posts. I happen to believe that gay people are born gay just as hetro people are born hetro and I believe that all citizens, gay, straight, or bi, are entitled to equal protection under the law and should have equal rights...including the right to serve openly in the service and to marry.
However, you are also in error if you believe that the anti-Christian group only bash Christianity and are only insulting to Christians over gay issues. If you will take the time to read through many, many threads on this forum you will find the anti Christian bigots insult and mock we who are Christians and our faith at every possible chance. Just as you, as a gay person, are hurt and insulted when people stereotype and insult you, so do we Christians. And, just as gay people do not (and should not) hide being gay, so we Christians do not (and should not) hide our faith. Why should you hide who you are because of bigots? Why should I hide my faith because of bigots?
"""
Why do you think you have the ability to decide who is a "true" xian?
Are you all-knowing?"""
Good point....whenever a christian is caught with it's "pants down"...other christians will excuse them by sayiing "oh, they're not REALLY christians"....
oh, yes they are....
It is not just when they are caught with their pants down, they use that same rule for every bad behavior known to man. Anytime a Christian does something embarassing like getting caught having sex with male escorts or criminal like shooting an abortion doctor, they retroactively kick them out of their little club of hypocrites.
Dant, Dant, Dant, Another Homophobe Bites The Dust!!
A "general" for the Christian right -- and vocal advocate for gay-to-straight conversion-therapy -- has been accused of gallivanting around Europe with a gay hooker.
The male escort hired by anti-gay activist George Alan Rekers has told Miami New Times the Baptist minister is a homosexual who paid him to provide body rubs once a day in the nude, during their ten-day vacation in Europe.
Instead of believing that they're hypocrites, look at their vehement denial as a symptom of the sickness that is homosexuality. They know it's sick, they feel shame about it, they want everyone to believe they're not gay because the people they want to impress the most are straight.
Sounds like what gays do today with the gay marriage thing.
What gays want the most is acceptance from straight people, and they want straight people not to think they're damaged goods, and see them as being as normal as straight people are.
Wow! The ignorance and bigotry in this post is staggering.

Rekers allegedly named his favorite maneuver the "long stroke" -- a complicated caress "across his penis, thigh... and his anus over the butt cheeks," as the escort puts it. "Rekers liked to be rubbed down there," he says.
...
I saw this. I feel bad for the man. A segment of society has infected their hatred on him and he turned it in on himself. Hopefully, he will learn to heal. As a gay man who went the religous path and discovered "pray the gay away" is useless at best and is actually harmful, I know the pain hatred causes. My Mom was very "anti-gay" when I first came out. She believed all the hog-wash that many conservatives push. However, it was LOVE that opened her eyes to light and truth. It is not through throwing hate back at the "anti-gay" camp that will change the world. It is love, knowing, and understanding. Two wrongs don't make a right and hating the hater only feeds the flames. Take a page from Dr. King.
