Stories from the Frontlines: Former Army Sgt. Tracey L. Cooper-Harris | Blog | Servicemembers Legal Defense Network

Quote:
Dear Mr. President,

My name is Tracey Cooper-Harris. I served in the Army for 12 years, reaching the rank of Sergeant. As a soldier and a non-commissioned officer (NCO), I performed my duties with honor and distinction. I was lauded by my peers and superiors for going above and beyond the status quo to complete the mission.

And, I am gay.

Emphasis mine

If only those in Congress had courage and would repeal DADT.
It's disgusting such a policy was ever in place and our "representatives" choose to keep their feet in cement.

Obama has not repealed DADT on the advice of his military commanders who probably know more about the potential consequences of its repeal than anyone else.

Does Congress even have a say in this? And even if they do, they would be foolish to tackle an issue like this one.

oh good, another blog "source". I'm going to start a blog that declares anyone trusting an online blog a complete and utter fool.

No I'm not. That would just bring me down to the level of the fools that believe everything they read on the Internet.

Guess some of you forgot some of the previous articles by "soldiers". You all fell for those too, so at least you're consistent.

DADT was a concontion of the right wing religious nut jobs forced onto Clinton under DOMA.

It's total bs, and anyone with an ounce of intellect would tell you how detrimental it is to our military and our society.

Why not segregate the military just like in the 1940's? Same thing right?

You obviously don't know much about the relationship between the president and and his top military advisers. Or for that matter, how policy is made, no matter who the president is.

?

Gays had completely been barred from joining the military until Clinton signed the order allowing gays to serve if they kept their sexual orientation to themselves (DADT). DOMA came about 3 years after DADT...

As much as you and Elana Kagan might want to try and convince the public, the DADT policy was not a policy created by the US military, it is the policy passed by a democrat controlled congress and signed by a democrat president in 1993.

So if you and Kagan have a bone to pick, it's with Bill Clinton and the Democratic Party, not the US military. All the military can do is follow the orders signed by president Clinton.

Don't worry, I'll not wait for you and Kagan to place the blame where it belongs, nor apologize for demonizing the US military, both you and her have made it clear who you chose to blame.
