Regarding the ringworm that was present in the shelter animals...I grew up on a ranch (dairy goats in particular) and every once in a while there would be an outbreak of ringworm. That kind of stuff happens when you travel to livestock shows and there's really no way to get around it.

We used to treat it with flouride toothpaste. Worked like a charm You clean the affected area, rub a little apple cider vinegar on the spots, let that dry and then put toothpaste on it and let it dry and flake off. Do that for a few days and it goes away. The 'fancy shmancy' oral medications and dips they mention are expensive and unnecessary.

They need to get some actual animal people in there to treat the dogs/cats

But when 350 animals get killed for having a nonlethal illness that the shelter was too cheap to treat, nothing happens?

He actually went to jail for gambling, across state lines, etc. Not for dogfighting.

It would probably be a smart thing to get all the facts in the future.

I apologize. Should have been more clear.

He was convicted of running and bankrolling an illegal dogfighting ring across state lines. That's what made it a federal charge.

If it was just dogfighting he would have only recieved state dogfighting charges.

I think the Feds gave him a stiffer penalty.

Have you ever seen Nat Geo's dogtown? I think one of the first episodes was about the Vick dogs. The female I refernced earlier was one of the dogs they rehabilitated, it was really heartbreaking they actually pulled all of the dog's teeth out so she wouldn;t bite the dogs they wereforcing her to mate with. They also had some of the "Bait Dogs" from the complex. IMHO, his penalty was too light for what he and his posse did to those dogs.

I don't support this shelter, but how could you compare it to Vick???

Who knows why the shelter really did it. Maybe they didn't want to use up their entire annual funding for this, maybe they just assumed they wouldn't get extra funding. Who knows. But there's a huge difference between Vick's malicious intent and this shelter. Surely you see that?

Ignorant statement if you are suggesting tat his race was the reason he was convicted of a felony and served jail time in Leavenworth.

Let us not foret that Vick profited from these fight he sponsored (unreported income aside frombein illegal activity and animal cruelty) and that Vickadmited killing many of the dogs with his own hands.

If you ask me Vick should have been thrown into a pit wih these fighting dogs and let them tear him apart alive. Leavenworth was too good for that piece of scum.

Agree a thousand percent. Do you know the theme of his community service speech(es?) was not "Don't be cruel to animals," it was "Everyone deserves a second chance."

(Meaning himself, not the dogs)

I've seen the ads/commercials for it but I cant watch that stuff as I have a huge soft spot for animals. I have also had a pit bull in the past (and grew up beside my grandparents' farm where they had a female pit chained up) and love those dogs so it would really tear me up to watch it. I cant bring myself to watch anything like that. They really are such good dogs. They just do whatever the owner wants them to do, which is unfortunate because a large % of people that own those dogs should not be able to have them. Its mostly either really dumb ghetto thugs or really dumb redneck hicks. And those are the ones that give them a bad name.

As far as the feds giving him a harsher penalty. That's true. They gave him 1 or 2 chances to fess up in the beginning but he kept saying he was innocent. I think the judge was even quoted during sentencing along those lines. Saying that he was giving him a harsher penalty because of the lying, etc.
