Up here in Yankee land we use the license fees to fund the Fish and Game Dept so there are fish to catch by restocking streams and lakes and game to hunt by managing how many deer and moose are killed. Maybe Florida does the same?
This is about fishing out of the ocean. Salt water fishing
anyone ever get a good reason why you have to have a license to fish other than for the state to collect more money?
In the case of freshwater they supposedly use the funds to stock lakes and maintain facilities and etc.
In the case of saltwater they supposedly use the money to maintain facilities such as boat ramps and etc. Most public boat ramps already have an access fee that averages 5.00.
I say it's to collect more money. Massachusetts also just added a salt water license law and fee which will take effect next year.

We already have to pay for that. You have to pay to walk on the pier if you fish or not
You're right. There isn't any logic in quitting your job(when so many have lost their jobs) because you're jealous of the less fortunate.......that's quite a weird idea....

Many states would like you to believe the funds you pay towards the license help maintain the conservation infrastructure, but instead put the money into the general account.
Those dept's typically get budget cuts first, as the funds from sportsman were allocated elsewhere.
If it were private industry, this would be considered false advertising.
Yes, that's kind of easy to understand. They're not fishing because they have nothing else to do, they're fishing to atch something to eat. Qualifying for economic hardship is not as simple as just quiting your job....you might not even be allowed unemployment benefits if you simply quit your job (usually you have to have been layed-off).
That makes as much sense as excusing a thief because they wanted steal and then sell hot goods so they have money to eat. Sorry, doesn't fly. All taxes should be uniform. These same folks exempted are the ones who will sell the fish out of their cooler along the roadside.

There's a big difference between using a freshwater fishing license to stock the streams and rivers with trout, and imposing a saltwater fishing license requirement. The state isn't going to be able to significantly affect the number of fish in the sea.
NH is going to a Salt Water License too. As usual, they're desperate for any source of money for the "programs" that our State doesn't actually provide, but some other states apparently do. My Dad was poor as a church-mouse and there was never a single "program" from NH to help him, other than a small reduction in the property taxes (not passed until a year before he died) that were forcing him out of his house.
So the wonderful state of Florida decided that it needed to squeeze more cash out of the residents .....
Squeeze more cash out of residents? In case you haven't noticed we don't pay state income tax.
