Thats what happens when you become DEPENDENT on the government... when was the American dream to be dependent on the federal government?? It AIN'T free, you pay a LOT of taxes for it... I suppose you enjoy paying taxes for someone else's healthcare? Obama is already suggesting you pay tax for someone else's retirement... do you like that? How about we just take away all your money and let you live in a studio apartment with free rent, food, water, and healthcare... wouldn't that be "heaven"... taking away your money to put it in corporate profits, other people's rent, food, healthcare, elitist politicians... sounds like China doesn't it? You like to live in China... go ahead... I prefer keeping the money I make.. and be responsible for my own health care, mortgage, food, retirement, and life...

I lived in Canada for 4 years. It is definitely NOT free. The taxes are draconian.

They have a very serious shortage of doctors, at least in the area whereI lived.

Very difficult to find a doctor that will take new patients.

Waiting list for things like MRI's, Cat scans, non-emergency surgery are long.

A lot of people go....to the US to have these procedures done.

Ever heard of the Homestead Act? That's just one example.

You people are so blind by your ideology that your ignorance of history really begins to seep out. Stop listening to Hannity or Rush, pick up a book, and learn something for a change.

That's already happening. In fact, under beloved Bush the amount we pay for has INCREASED (see Prescription Drug Benefit).

If we are going to have such a system then I want it run more efficiently and streamlined. The current mish-mash is a mess.

This already happens as well. Ever heard of Social Security?

But as is typical, the system is a mess. Here in the US, because we are somehow afraid of "socialism" (when of course we have no problem with socialism in other areas - military, police, fire, etc), we always go halfway with our systems. Then they become a bureaucratic nightmare while at the same time not providing the service effectively.

Get a grip guy. We are not going to turn into China.

We are talking about providing some services through the government when the private sector has shown that it is ineffective. Similar thing happened with the police. We used to have private police forces. Didn't work too well so we started instituting police forces controlled and run by the (dun-dun-dun) "government." And we didn't suddenly become a communist state then and it won't happen now.

Well, despite what you want or what you think you are responsible for, the federal government (along with the state and local government) has a HUGE influence on those things you think you are "responsible for." And without that influence, your health care, mortgage, food, retirement, life would be of a lower quality and probably more expensive to afford/maintain.

Couldn't have said It any better my self..... These folks with their talking points is childish. They DO need to open a history book, a little geography wouldn't hurt ether. Maybe such is too academic , and .....we all know about Academics ! " Bushed again ".....

It's more like 16% according to Census Bureau's 2005 Current Population Survey:
DeNavas-Walt, C.B. Proctor, and J. Smith. Income, Poverty, and Health Insurance Coverage in the United States: 2006. U.S. Census Bureau., August 2007. http://www.census.gov/prod/2007pubs/p60-233.pdf.

Where did you get 7%?
