Support it or don't support it.

Just please, could people stop calling it FREE???? Its not effin free!!!! You will pay for it one way or the other. And some people will pay in very little and use a lot of services (not saying this is right or wrong, I understand things happen) while others pay in a lot more while rarely if ever using the services. They WILL be paid for by everyone who pays taxes, period. So it is NOT FREE.

Of course it is not free. But if they are paying in and making use of their system overall much more efficiently than our system today, and everyone is getting coverage- it is certainly worth a look.

I still think our current system is salvageable without government takeover. I think the true solution lies somewhere between completely socialized and completely privatized without being too close to either end of the spectrum.

And since Canada doesn't have "socialized" medicine, but instead, "socialized ACCESS to private medicine" via single-payer insurance, I think the Canadians got it right!

I fear privatized healthcare, mainly because that's what our system mostly is right now. Doctors are free to charge whatever they want to patients. Like I said a few days ago, I went in for a routine doctors visit, some 15 minutes, and he just wanted to VERIFY information. That cost me $300.

Say WHAT?

My employer-provided health insurance only covered $50-something. So, they're just going to have to deal with the fact that I'm only paying them $25 per month. I could take from my savings, but why would I do that to make another person rich?

Our system has major problems, but for those who can afford it, it provides the highest quality health care in the world, IMO.

Default Canada's health care

It is true that in Canada it might take a little long to get non-emergency surgeries, but emergency surgeries are always taken care of. Canadians do not live under the fear that if we get sick we will end up on the street or that we are going to be turned away if we go to the hospital. We might wait a bit long, but we will receive the care. Living without that kind of stress is already a healthy advantage. In my opinion, a country with a good system of governance is the one that takes care of the weakest members of its society. I have no problem paying extra taxes if I know that the elderly woman next door will be able to get the help that she needs when she needs it. Whoever said that Canadians would never change their system for the system of the US, you are absolutly right. Hopefully that never happens, but if it does, I am moving to a remote place in Latin America. That would be less hipocritical than living in a country that boasts of being the epiphany of eden and can stand watching its own people go trhough so much hardship to receive basic care.

You mean...just as the US asked Canada to send more troops to Irak?? Canadians do not think the US is evil. Canadians simply have their priorities in better order. In fact, we Canadians love our friendly neighbours to the South, in spite of the fact that they will stab us on the back every time they can.
