As we listen to right wing zealots whine endlessly about the Obama's "big brother" government, America's most conservative state shows us all how it's really done.

Quote:
In the state of Utah, if you go into a club and purchase a drink, and if you appear to be “35 years old or younger,” a new state law requires the bartender or waiter to electronically scan your driver’s license in order to verify your age. Of course, scanning your license electronically provides a database of who is purchasing alcoholic beverages, where, when and it what quantities; information then available to the government. All this simply because a person decides to have a drink in a club that sells alcoholic beverages.
Quote:
But, hey, what’s more important — the freedom to sell or enjoy a beer, or the desire by the government to require you surrender your privacy and personal information into a database?

Sadly, Safeway has the same policy, at least here in California....

Wow - epic fail.

Carding someone is nothing new - and (gasp!) people try to use fake ID's!

You let the adults handle the heavy lifting, OK??

I wouldnt consider Utah to be the most conservative state. I would consider Texas to be. But whatever

I dont agree with this law but I also believe in states rights. Fla has scan IDs also. They are scanned now for almost everything.. I dont agree with Fla doing it either. But I think Privacy trumps them both.

I don't like the idea either. One thing is to provide a date of birth. It's another thing for your every move to be tracked in a system. This does indeed wreak of Big Brother.

That's one way for the Mormons to see who isn't obeying THEIR rules. Big brother, thy name is religion. But we knew that already.

Your post is embarrassing. Checking an ID and scanning in and saving your purchase habits and whereabouts are vastly different.

In Nebraska, if you are buying tobacco in any form and you look like you are under 40 will get a request for ID.

Looks like it may be more than just alcohol and Utah. I've even been occasionally asked for ID when using a credit card.

The data bases we are all in must be uncountable.
