Really?

Didn't the pirates go "missing", meaning shot and killed and dumped overboard?

I'm sure they will want to tangle with the Russians after that...right?

SOMALIA: Russia executed all Somali pirates – spokesman

Quote:
“The Russians never released the young men instead they shot them point-blank range then loaded their lifeless bodies back on the boat,” he added.
What a sad waste of $50 million if only they would have been put on trial in the USA.

"The spokesman condemned the action of the Russian navy “our men never hurt their hostages, we simply want foreign ships to stop overfishing in our waters, if they are not happy to respect our-fishermen and their livelihood, we have no choice but to take hostage to compensate for the losses,” he cited."

I never got any further than this paragraph from the link in the above post. Was rolling on the floor laughing so hard I couldn't get up. As if these merchant ships using this sea lane are on a fishing trip. Indeed.

How much navigation equipment do you need to know the sun rises in the east and sets in the west?

Some Muslims might believe that north is always on your left.

Correct term is "summary execution" and is legally fine in cases like this. I rather like the Russians; they're pithy and down to earth.

I've always admired a certain level of testicular fortitude exhibited by Russia. I believe the United States could benefit by learning from Russia in a few areas that require heavy-handed tactics. Our wussy-level has spiked since the Cold War ended, and it disturbs me.

And I'm sure those Somali fishermen are being screwed out of millions of dollars by the supposed "overfishing" of their waters by outsiders.

Nothing more than morons trying to attach a "cause" to their blatant illegal actions.

Deploy some Predators to the area and simply bomb these pirate vessels at will.

You didn't read the entire article did you. There are more Somali pirates than just the handful that attacked that particular ship. Piracy is a thriving 'cottage industry' in that country. THOSE pirates still in Somali---alive---are the ones who promised to retaliate.

Promising to retaliate and being able to do so or willing to do so are two different things. However, the complacency and sheer volume of things going on in Russia's world may lead them to take their eye off the ball. Then they will get their own USS Cole moment.

However, after that...well, let's say I seriously doubt that when the Russian's let loose 3 platoons of Spetsnatz troops they will bother with the same ROE that we did. The Somali 'warlords' will get another lesson in Russian hospitality. Unfortunately, so will hundreds of civilians as well.

In the end, the Somali's should have poked the bear with that stick that is now sticking up their a**. Hard lesson learned for them.
