Aside from very wealthy individuals or those with vital skills which are in shortage and will contribute to our society. Just seems that with so many unemployed, so many immigrants who have zero loyalty to this nation as well as the added stress they put on our deteriorating infrastructure that it makes no sense to 'allow more people to jump onto our sinking ship' as another poster here so fittingly put it.
In my opinion while we are a "nation of immigrants" we need to take a pause and let things balance out for a while as we have many times in the past.

Thoughts?

No doubt about it. Immigration needs to be stopped temporarily until we can get our financial issues under control and stop our country from sinking in even more in the worst recession since the Great Depression.

We don't have OUR citizens working now.Forget bringing more people here just to apply for welfare and have the USA drown even more.

Yes I do think it should be halted for a while not forever. I think we should stop issuing work visas also. Let's get Americans back to work.

We have something like 130,000 legal immigrants per month(who knows how many illegal ones in addition). That puts a serious dent in efforts to cut down unemployment.

Might as well just repeat this. My thoughts exactly.

Those are the basic requirements to immigrate (the kind that are supposedly taking jobs away). Businesses lobby so they can bring qualified people they can't find locally. Are you suggesting that the government regulate businesses in this regard as well?

BTW, if businesses won't bring them here, they will just send the jobs there. I would rather have the jobs stay here as they help our economy a lot more than they do if the jobs were outsourced elsewhere.

On the same note, one could say that two-wage earners per household are also creating a havoc and should be reconsidered.

Sure, if you want to damage the US economy. What about those multi-nationals who routinely move people around .... US citizens and non-US citizens?

The issue is a whole lot more complex than just illegal unskilled workers.

No we should not halt immigration. We should raise the bar though.

True..So many only see immigration as a solely unskilled Mexican issue.
