I think some living wage advocates are overselling the benefits of living wages for lifting people out of poverty. I think this because how people will benefit from an living wage will vary from person to person based on their circumstances. An adult earning a living wage who is single with no kids is going to benefit from a living wage differently than a person who is also earning a living wage but has three kids to support. Also people's knowledge of personal finance can play a part in how they can benefit from an increase in pay. What good will a living wage do if someone is wasting the extra money on things they might not really need for them or their family?

$9 to $10 per hour is a "living wage" in a place I do not care to live.

That's another issue I guess. How do you decide on what a living wage should be?

I suggest 80% of the median income in your area.

"Living Wages" are keywords for union infiltration. We all know the detrimental effects that unions have on companies in the modern era. I advocate for living wages, but certainly not by the forceful hand of unionization.

Did you hear on that link how that last guy was spending hundreds of dollars on tattoos with that extra money? Then when asked if he was saving any money for his kid's education he said he hadn't thought of that.
