Yeah and the economy is recovering. I'm guessing folks are heading to the dollar stores more and more while Obama prattles on about how magical the stimulous is. Meanwhile DOW down 376 points today.

"DALLAS -- Wal-Mart Stores Inc. posted its worst monthly same-store sales results in at least 28 years, tallying a 3.5% decline in April due to this year's early Easter as well as generally challenging economic conditions for consumers.

Wal-Mart's 3.5% drop in the four-week period ending May 4 at U.S. stores fell below its earlier forecast of "flat" sales to a 2% decline. In a recorded phone message Thursday, Wal-Mart blamed bad weather last month in most U.S. regions and the early Easter on April 8, which pushed many Easter sales into March.

Same-store sales measure sales gains or losses at stores open for at least a year. They are a key indicator of the returns a retailer reaps on the capital it spends, and thus an influence on its profitability. Most publicly traded U.S. retailers are reporting their April results Thursday.

Wal-Mart's chief financial officer had warned a month ago that the retailer's earlier guidance for earnings per share of 68 cents to 71 cents for its latest quarter would be "a challenge" to achieve given what the company foresaw as a difficult April. The retailer didn't provide an update. It did, however, predict a sales gain for this month of 1% to 2%. Wal-Mart will report its results for its first quarter ended April 30 on Tuesday."

Maybe if they had more of their products made in the U.S. their sales MIGHT increase. There would be more employed people and SOME people who don't shop there now because of all their foreign made goods would shop there.

It makes too much sense so I doubt they'll do it but stranger things have happened.

If you start offshoring too much, you destroy your customer base. It sucks Wal-Mart has to learn this the hard way.

Keep your "I hate Walmart" rant to yourself. That's not what this is about. Economy is not recovering like Obama says. He's lying again.

yeah..when Walmart, leader of the lowest prices is having problems then you know it's bad.
I said that some time ago..Walmart is a canary of the economy of main street.

If people aren't shopping at Walmart that is a major indicator.
High end stores reporting profit....means the wealthy are spending and aren't worried.

Walmart has been doing OK all along which meant folks were hanging on.
I take this as a warning shot across the bow.

For once.....a post from you I can pretty much agree with.

I would have to say though.......if Wal-Mart suddenly did an about face and dumped a lot of thier business with the mfg. of so many goods from China and many other 3rd world, commie/socialist nations with cheap/slave labor....and doing biz/trading with these nations overseas...... and begin a whole new reform/approach which would drastically increase employment opportunities from mfg. on up the ladder.....all across AMERICA.....
yes, they could possibly reverse a trend which I believe will probably continue TFN, otherwise....(I mean, until BO's multi-stimuluses for economic recovery and sustained growth) that appear/disappear like a ghost.....start working???
Realistically, I don't see them attempting to do something that could perhaps, benefit THEM....and MILLIONS of Americans with mega- job opportunities at every level......in such a manner though.
Too radical and probably, too late anyway.

The more I think about this....the more it occurs to me, Wal-Mart Inc. of nearly ANY company on Earth......HAS a LOT of POWER in and of itself, to re-define ITS destiny....as well as that of job growth and potential, HERE....and on a global scale.

As much as anyone may hate them......THEY are in a league all their own when it comes to their ability to manage and grow from within.
In all honesty, America would probably be in a lot better shape today, if we had the kind of leadership in DC that Wal-Mart Inc. obviously, has had over the past 30 years.
