"U. S. Military Academy cadets give him a cool reception"

"In what some observers, including this one, see as a return to the national security strategy of the Jimmy Carter administration President Obama, in a commencement address at the U. S. Military Academy at West Point, told the graduates that he believes America must rely on its allies, expressing faith in "cooperation and partnerships to confront economic, military and environmental challenges of the future according to the Washington Post report on the speech."......

"You will note the very weak applause and response to his remarks by the cadets. Some will recall when he visited the Academy last year to make his announcement of what he was going to do about Afghanistan that the faculty had to warn the cadets that they would be taking names of those who did not applaud when signaled to do so".....

Obama renounces military force to secure our national interests and says he will rely on "cooperation and partnerships."

Some would say that cooperation and partnership are preferable to military conflict.

Apparently you don't.

GOOD!!!!

The United States spends 44% of the entire worlds military budget. We spend more than 8 times what our nearest possible enemy (China). If you count our close allies, the UK, France, Israel, Germany, etc, we spend almost 60% of the entire worlds military budget.

Its time for the United States to quit throwing money at being the policeman of the rest of the world. Let the United Nations do what it was meant for. The next time there is a UN war, let the United States only input about 25% of the total force, instead of 60 and 70% as we have in the past.

Its high time that we pay down our debt. The men and women of our country, right or wrong, LIKE social security, medicare, and all of the other entitlement programs that we have. Most Americans have no idea that we spend 21% of our budget, on the military, and thats 44% of the entire worlds military budget.

Lets cut back to 12% of the entire budget for the military, pay about 22/23% of the entire worlds military budget. Lets pay down our debt, and keep all of the social programs that the American citizenry want and demand.

I know many of my conservative friends here will say "but entitlements are over 40%" of the budget.

1. Thats all of the entitlements combined, not just one specific area, as the defense spending is.

2. The American people like their entitlement programs.

So, conservatives, work with what you've got. You know, if you have a family of 4, you've got to make tough decisions. Sometimes, you've got to cut spending where it can be cut, so that everyone remains happy. You aren't going to change the nations mentality on entitlements. Hell, 70% of the Tea Party supports medicare/medicaid, and social security, they aren't going away.

If you put the facts out to the people, and stop making it sound like "Oh, the liberals hate the military", which isn't true, the country will be better for it. The liberals don't hate the military, they are just working with what the public wants.

The public wants spending cut, and their entitlement programs.

Work with it.

Why should the US continue to shoulder all the expense and sacrifice in human lives.... if the conflict is global.

As if we have lots of extra scratch sitting around at the moment for shiny new weapons and our guys are not going on 4,5 deployments back to back.

The kids in West Point have not lived it yet. They will soon.

Especially when other people's kids fight them. Combine that with the fact that no politician is going to make me pay for the war and will usually give me a tax cut in the process. My pseudo patriotic sentiment can be appeased without any personal sacrifice outside of the cost of a "I Support the Troops" bumper sticker for my car. Its good times all around.

Obama:
“The international order we seek is one that can resolve the challenges of our times – countering violent extremism and insurgency; stopping the spread of nuclear weapons and securing nuclear materials; combating a changing climate and sustaining global growth; helping countries feed themselves and care for their sick; preventing conflict and healing its wounds.”

Ed Morrissey:

"If he finds one that could do any of the above, it would be the first. Bush 41’s idea of a “new world order” preceded the explosion of Islamist terrorism against the US, which the UN, the IAEA, and other multinationals proved inadequate or completely anachronistic to confront. The lesson from the past century is that these multinational organizations exist to maintain inertia and to hobble the democracies while giving tyrants a boost through moral relativism. In any case, telling West Point cadets that they’re fighting to establish an “international order” hardly seems like an inspirational moment."

Funny how people arent talking about the "International Order" Obama mentions. You Obamanites go ahead and ignore the bigger picture of all this; we expect nothing less from you drones.

Is it just you, or is it all conservatives who have no problem with lying to make your point?

I suggest that people who can think, should read the speech for themselves and leave the spin to the looneys.

I eagerly await the posts quoting where he said the United States renounces the use of military force.
