The far left's hatred of religion, by and large, is likely the reason Christians tend to be more conservative.

People hated religion well before the term "liberal" was ever used

There is a difference between having disdain for religion and believing in God. As for Jesus if he did exist would be labeled a Socialist by today's standards.

Please walk us through a scenario for this that would make sense.

I digress. Unfortunately I was raised Catholic and have read most of the Bible through and through. These warmongering holy rollers either haven't read the Bible or are very selective and neglect other verses when they condone violence. Having hateful degenerates like Jerry Faldwell and Pat Robertson claim they're the voice of God doesn't help either.
oh come on, you can take the Bible and interpret it many ways..You don't totally know what you are talking about. As for liberal versus conservative and being Christian, there are many liberals that are Christians and many Christians that are Republican. Talking about being selective, aren't you doing the same plus generalizing.

Just like every other religion it comes down to interpretation. Jesus loved EVERYONE. He took issue with corruption and greed not the rich. There is a difference. As for Christians being conservative it is based on the entire Bible not just one section. And I know MANY Christians that are NOT conservative. Being Christian does not make you a conservative.

I also have little doubt this will turn into yet another Christian bashing thread.

It's rationalization and cafeteria religions. People pick and choose what agrees with their values, and use them to reinforce their beliefs. Those that contradict it must be things that are "interpreted" as a lesson. It has little do to with the religion, or even the bible. It's people.

If they act out of character of even their own beliefs, it's a "special case" to them. So anything is allowable. Why else do you see many anti-gay religious figures that are farther in the extreme then the people they speak out against (like Haggard)...or the ones who speak for strict monogamy, who seem to be screwing anything with a pulse?

If people actually acted more Christian, they would be generally decent people...if not at least tolerable. However, many people use it like a bat to go completely nuts at anyone who doesn't believe the same things...and anything seems allowable to them if it's against the heretics.

Hmm...."Sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor"?

Nothing to do with corruption or greed.... just commitment.

What's your opinion of the quotes in the OP?

I am not sure what Bible you are quoting because it is not in the King James Version.

From The King James Version regarding giving to the poor:

Quote:
Exodus 30:14-16 (King James Version)

14Every one that passeth among them that are numbered, from twenty years old and above, shall give an offering unto the LORD.
15The rich shall not give more, and the poor shall not give less than half a shekel, when they give an offering unto the LORD, to make an atonement for your souls.
16And thou shalt take the atonement money of the children of Israel, and shalt appoint it for the service of the tabernacle of the congregation; that it may be a memorial unto the children of Israel before the LORD, to make an atonement for your souls.
Also:

Quote:
Proverbs 22:15-17 (King James Version)

15Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.
16He that oppresseth the poor to increase his riches, and he that giveth to the rich, shall surely come to want.
17Bow down thine ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply thine heart unto my knowledge.
It does not say that being rich is a bad thing, what IS a bad thing is if you get rich off the backs of the poor.

What's your opinion of the quotes in the OP?
I think it is one persons opinion and interpretation and I think it is a false one. Jesus did not dislike "the rich" he disliked the greedy and cruel.
