OK, we know the gulf rig disaster is the worst in history. We know that the environmental and economic impact in the Gulf coast, and coming soon to the east coast, will be monsterous. But, do we really need 5 different hearings on Capitol Hill with the same questions?

Jeez, Guys, shut the hell up.

There’s “top kill,” and then there’s overkill.

The former may or may not plug the monthlong oil gusher deep beneath the surface of the Gulf of Mexico. But nothing, it seems, will stick a cork in the volcano of congressional hearings.

Chairmen across Capitol Hill have been hauling bedraggled executives and government officials away from their work on the oil-based catastrophe to answer questions like: “Would it enhance the ability to increase safety if we had a better cop on the beat that enforced the rules and regulations?”

Dog and pony show. The first thing out of any of their mouths lately is "let's hold a hearing" for any little thing that happens.

Ok, so they hold the hearing. Then what ? They move on to the next crisis with "let's hold a hearing".

Stop holding hearings until the oil well is plugged and cleanup is under way. Then call everybody in, and rip them a new one once, not 5 times.
