So you can thank all those waco environmentalists who made this catastrophe possible.
I was about the post the same exact thing. To save us a ton of money at the expense of a few fish that may die and wind up on someones dinner plate? Oh, we can't have that....Lets bleed to death financially to save a few fish.

I found the whole enterprise of deep-sea drilling doggedly ambitious, but also seemingly desperate -- like an addict forcing a syringe into the earth's innermost veins. How did it come to this -- to scenarios as remote and arduous as the five-mile undersea wells drilled by the Cajun Express? How did a resource that is now so hard to come by in America become the basis of our economic survival?

Have no fear. We will be on our way to screw up the Arctic real soon. We'll be drilling until we have destroyed every eco-system that still exists. Humans are here to ravage and obliterate the planet and all is going according to that plan. Be patient.

We're in the deep sea because they (environmentalists) don't want us in shallow water or land!! So they push them waaaaay out in the deep parts! It would have been capped by now, if it was at a reachable depth !! Anwar?? We could have mopped it up with some Brawny paper towels!

This thing is 5000 feet down!!

What's the difference in the long run..to stay with the authors analogy...mainlining or skin popping...a junkie is still a junkie. The world's insane oil addiction will bring us to the same inevitable end. Hopefully there will be enough earth's resources left for the planet to fix itself when there are no longer humans around to screw things up.
