Not only were the all of the African American Congressmen and Senators Republicans but the first African American to win a seat in the Congress post Reconstruction was Oscar De Priest, a Republican. The first African American senator in the post Reconstruction era was Edward Brooke of Massachusetts, a Republican.
My history came from the Milwaukee public school system. Since they missed some important things. Beck brought very important history to people's attention--why does that bother you? I've said it on here many times, research everything. I've learned alot of history that was overlooked that I deem important.
Hidden? I've yet watch a single documentary or read a single book on Reconstruction that doesn't make this point patently obvious, including black historian, the late John Hope Franklin's Reconstruction after the Civil War, that doesn't make this point plainly obvious.
Yeah, Ovcatto is right. The Republican party was formed on a platform of emancipation. That was almost their sole purpose as a political entity.

You might want to educate yourself about the republican party, its founding, its voter base when Abraham Lincoln was around, through the 1930s. Because your knowledge on the subject is seriously lacking.

I would think this would be a pretty hard set of facts to conceal from millions of people, but you must have some evidence if you're making the assertion, right?
100 years ago-- The chances of a white or black republican on dying was very high back then, from the hands of progressive democrates. So if a republican was progressive---he was probably spared his life.
1. What were the chances? Since homicide is the best documented of all crimes, I assume you have evidence setting forth the number of Republicans killed 100 years ago, the identities of their killers, and the number of thos killers who were, as you put it, "progressive democrats"?
2. Whatever you might want to call the racist Democrats of the 19th and 20th Centuries, "progressive" is not an apt description. They were vicious racists determined to turn back the clock to the days of slavery, Jim Crow, and the subjugation of blacks. Nothing progressive about them.

Not unless that is all you can see. You too could use a bit of education on the history of the republican party, along with the OP. And how it ties to the present day republican party.
Hint: Republican party was strong in states that are currently blue. I bet you didn't know that either.
