Just like their refusel to let reporters into Gaza to cover the humanitarian crisis, they are holding these 600 Turkish activists incommunicado.

Excellent run down of this by Glenn Greenwald along with their two Month long press blackout in Gaza. ........All documented with sourcing.

What does Israel fear from media coverage? - Glenn Greenwald - Salon.com

Reuters

Israel was holding hundreds of activists incommunicado in and around the port city of Ashdod, refusing to permit journalists access to witnesses who might contradict Israel's version of events.

Israel is not now, nor has it ever been a democracy. It was founded as a theocracy and anyone who is not Jewish lacks what we in the United States would consider fundamental civil rights.

Of course not, but it's comical that their Neocon supporters here in the USA make that argument.

To hide their crimes one needs to shut out the press.

As founder Thomas Jefferson told us long ago.

"Our first object should therefore be, to leave open to him all the avenues of truth. The most effectual hitherto found, is freedom of the press. It is therefore, the first shut up by those who fear the investigation of their actions."

Just because a country is a democracy does not mean it has freedom of the press and freedom of speech. In fact MOST democracies do NOT allow either or sharply curtail such freedoms when the government deems it to be in the best interest to do so. This would include Canada and the UK. One does not necessarily go hand in hand with the other. Israel like any other nation has to protect its image and they don't want hundreds of witnesses throwing gas on the fire right now. Wait for a few days until this dies down and these people will be released. They are not going to keep them long.

Legally, this is an act of piracy. Do you suppose the western countries will be as concerned about relief supplies to Gaza as oil to the car fuel tanks?
