The Republicans immediately become the Whig Party when Texas turns blue. They are screwed when it comes to the electoral college. Why do you think so many Texans start the "Texas vs. California" threads on C-D? They feel threatened.

Many people make it sound like ALL those people from California,Ohio,Michigan are Dems.
Some Hispanics are Repub in Texas.Maybe 40-45%?
Uh, don't think so. Most Hispanic/Latino's are Dem., at least here in Texas. Those that are Rep. are about 12-15% of that segment of the population. Texas' population though is roughly 44% Hispanic/Latino

Texas was historically blue for many years following the Civil War. In recent memory it was the first two years of the Clinton administration's attempt to force socialistic fiscal and anti-traditional religious policies that got Anne Richards voted out of office. Also in New York (the state that put the "L" in liberal) Mario Coumo was defeated by a Republican that year.
I believe that Obama may fail to realize that Hispanics (as a whole) do not vole in blocks. I doubt that a Puerto Rican from the Bronx, a Cuban-American from Florida or a Mexican-American in the RGV have a whole lot in common other than some distant ancestry.

It'll never happen. The redneck factor is off the charts.

Dude, even 2 Puerto Ricans, one from the Bronx and one from the island, are very different. Cuban-Americans and Commonwealth Puerto Ricans (like me) tend to be more conservative and vote Republican, whereas the Puerto Ricans from New York (or Nuyoricans) tend to be more liberal and vote Democrat. It also has a lot to do with class status as well, the poor are more likely to vote Democrat no matter their race or beliefs, against someone who is better off

It's nothing like saying California will go red since California is becoming more blue just like Texas.....LOL

The Hispanic population in Texas is booming. That's were the big growth is....and Texas Hispanics know white right wingers here despise them.

I know, how dare those rednecks not slave themselves over to pay for illegal alien healthcare and free schooling and reduced college tuition for illegal aliens!

The power base in Texas is white and redneck that's true.

But what many people don't know about Texas is that a coalition of liberal whites, and minorities have already turned the biggest urban areas Democrat. The only thing that has kept the GOP in power is the suburban and rural areas that are highly white and vote 3 to 4 for the the GOP. The GOP grip on power slips every year as the minority population grows. So it's not that far off...maybe a decade before we could see Texas turned. ....and as perkins well mentioned...the GOP will never recover when that happens.
