It took awhile, but the disaster in the Gulf has finally turned people against more offshore drilling. About time.

Quote:
With oil continuing to stream into the Gulf, a majority of Americans - 51 percent -- say the costs and risks of increased offshore drilling are too great, according to a new CBS News poll.

That's ten points higher than one month ago and an increase of 23 points from a poll taken in August 2008, when Republican rallies regularly broke out in chants of "drill, baby, drill."

Not surprising. IMO that was the administration's game plan all along.

Not a surprise. Something about looking at all those birds and sea life make people a little upset.

Polls are stupid . I could go to a different part of the country and get 90% approval for more drilling . It all depends on where , how , and who you ask

Sure. As the disaster continues to unfold, those numbers are just going to get stronger opposing more drilling.

After seeing what's going on in the Gulf..do you honestly think anybody wants more drilling to start up off their shores now?

You'll never hear the "drill baby drill" chant again..

I have never supported deep water drilling. I oppose it 100% and don't want it anywhere near my state.

I support deep water drilling provided that all of the technical and regulatory safeguards are in place. Let's not do to the oil industry what we did to the nuclear power industry.

Yes let's. All the technical and regulatory safeguards were in place with this. We just cannot do much when things go wrong a mile under the sea. I am actually FOR nuclear power. We need to build 200 more plants.

Oh, but we have too......It's the only way to give the rest of the world a leg up on us, and make certain we continue to bleed out the rest of what little remains of our wealth to them.

YC.......

I never have supported offshore drilling and never will. I don't support drilling near the shore a whole lot either, but seeing this disaster I would choose that any day over drilling way out there. If we would have done that, the spill most likely could have been stopped in a very timely matter.

And I can't believe there are people on this board who believe this incident was intentional. Pretty ignorant if you ask me..
