Here's the top three powerful players: the US government, corporate America, the American Media.
BP is a very large corporation with plenty of money and influence. BP belongs to the Big Oil Cartel.
So a member of Big Oil has a problem. In the early stages of the spill it seemed that the President took a laid back attitude. People ask why. What American politician would dare challenge a huge, powerful, corporation and get away with it? Don't forget, this is BP's drilling, but you can be sure that Big Oil is very concerned about investigations and media coverage.
Well before this oil spill many people felt that the US media panders to corporate America. After all, large corporations buy ad time on TV. Would those corporations want to see their commercials followed by critical reports of their actions? Probably not.
Has anyone noticed...media reports are talking heads, aerial views, more talking heads, scenes of people at the beaches, more talking heads...but not many shots of damage to wildlife. The latter would certainly upset the most viewers.
Are there any clear figures to the amount of oil that has spilled so far? Enough for two super tankers? Or three?
Have any media outlets used the word "pollution" yet?
How many politicians have been critical of BP? Or Big Oil?
How many politicians have been critical of the MMS?
Mid-term elections aren't too far away, usually the candidate that raises the most money has the best chance to win. How much in campaign contributions are necessary to stone wall investigations?
Have any media outlets reported on media restrictions to the polluted areas?
The US Coast Guard, like all US Department Of Defense branches, has a chain of command. On what rung is BP? By what authority is the Coast Guard enforcing restrictions that BP wants?
Just a few things to think about. Like the oil, maybe there is more beneath the surface.

Plenty seem to be worrying about these very things on other sites, forums and blogs.
I really hate the sanitized MSM news that is being told.
The better news is from foreign sites and some special area blogs (The Oil Drum is a good one).

Has any part of the MSM said anything about the Mexican spill of 1979 that resulted in 138 million barrels of oil going directly into the Gulf? That one took 9 months to stop but a Mexican company, Itxco was responsible for that one and it was only about 1000 ft. deep. I am pretty sure that this one hasn't been responsible for anywhere near to the 138 million barrels, yet.

Now I think that the government could have told BP to drill two relief wells ad Itxco did but they didn't force that, did they?

I just thought this is another thing we could be worrying about, but then it does cut much of the loud screaming, especially that coming from environmentalists to pieces.

I apologize to you for my interest in the environment.
