I have noticed this for a while now (at LEAST a year)... I LOVE to browse RE listings!!! And there are SO many, I mean SOOOO many houses for sale in PSL that I find it hard to believe that anyone actually LIVES there!!! In fact, if it wasn't for pslOldTimer, I wouldn't believe these was a soul in that town!!! I mean, HUNDREDS!!! of houses! From the low 100's on up... It's wild! I mean, how are there that many vacant properties? Unless of course there are people living there waiting to move... Where are they all going? Is the whole place moving somewhere else? I don't get it!? It just weirds me out everytime I see that!!!

There are at least 151,000 people in the City of Port St. Lucie, with thousands more in the immediate surrounding area. Average household size is probably 2.5 so there are approximately 80,000 households in the area that uses Port St. Lucie as an address. Most, 95%, of those are single family homes -- there are still relatively few apartments, etc. in the area. So, that means there are 75,000 -- or more -- single family homes in PSL. If only 2% are for sale, that would be 1,500 homes...it's hard for outsiders to understand the sheer size and scale of this city. Because it's mostly a "bedroom" community with few major businesses and no real "downtown" area, people tend to think of it on the same scale as the average housing development. Believe me, hundreds of homes for sale is nothing, especially since there are almost 50 people moving into Port St. Lucie every day! That's 350 per week, and they all have to live somewhere. Things are still selling.
