My husband and I would like to move to Florida but are stuck in GA until we can unload our rental properties. We come down to PSL a couple times a year to visit family.
I would love to have a place of our own to stay instead of landing on relatives each time we come down. I can't justify the expense of a house yet, but if PSL attracts snowbirds and it could be rented out for the season and then we would visit in the off-season that might be worth looking in to.
Can anybody tell me how the seasonal rental market is there? What type of house is the most in demand for that type of tenant?

Port St Lucie was one of the hardest hit areas in Broward Dade and Palm beach by the recession. There are hundreds of vacant homes throughout the area. Brand new construction that have never sold, any realator in the area shoud be able to find you a beautiful home to rent in season or out at a very reasonable price.

There are still plenty of snowbirds that come every year no matter what. It's still a vacation to them and they still do it. I just had 2 people yesterday ask for next year already. The ecomomy may have slowed them down a bit, but it sure didn't stop them.

Our area was hard hit by the economy because when the building boom was going on this area was one of the few that could build.. and they did. Many people came from all over the place to buy homes and got 100% financing by taking 2 mortgages - a fixed and an adjustable. Well, the adjustable adjusted and their mtg payment jumped. Many bailed. = houses on the market.
