First time posting here for the Treasure Coast, so be easy on me.

Background info:

We currently live in Boca and hate it. I've been here since 2003 (moved here from Broward) and hubby's been here since 2006. We made a move within Boca last year to an apartment that is not in the best neighborhood. We're paying out the you-know-what for a 2 bedroom apartment where the police are here several times a week for problems and the search copter is flying over the complex and neighborhood on average 1 to 2 times per week. There's a reason why I call it Ghettofabulous!

We'd rather be out of the state altogether, but that's not an option right now. Hubby wants to move to Stuart and I'm not feeling it just yet. One of my requirements is for our middle school aged daughter to be in a school equal to or better than where she's at now. We may be in Ghettofabulous, but somehow we're zoned for an excellent school. Go figure!

Now for the question...

DD is currently in 6th grade and in the gifted program for PBCSD. She's in our zoned school, but had the option to attend another middle school in this area because she has an EP (educational plan) for gifted. The school she currently attends has a part-time gifted program and the rest of her classes are considered to be advanced. How does this work for Martin County? I've looked at the schools, but when it comes to the scores and rankings I'm less than impressed. I've been told that the schools are excellent, yadda yadda yadda. There is one school that has a much higher percentage of students in gifted as compared to the other schools, but I don't know if I can get my daughter enrolled there if it's simply based on where you're assigned to go or if they allow kids from outside the zone to attend.

The Martin County District Schools website is of NO help; same goes for the individual school sites. Can somebody here give some direction? Please?

Gifted falls under ESE. I'd contact the ESE department's Parent Liaison, Ann Koebe
