A couple of weeks ago trappers caught a 200lb hog in our neighborhood which is near Tradition. The trapper said that one much bigger than that chased someone in a park over in Tradition. I think they are coming from the development over across the Crosstown expressway. Some people are even telling me they see them in the road at night. They dig up your yard and will chase you if you are near one.

From what I've learned on A&E, all you're gonna need is a team of trained dogs and few hot women, and your problem will be taken care of.

A while back we saw a wild hog on the entrance ramp to 95 South from St. Lucie West Blvd. It was wandering around in the large grassy area on the right side of the ramp. It really took us by surprise and could have run right onto the road and caused an accident. Never saw one since, but we keep looking!

I saw one trot across in front of me while driving on Crosstown Parkway at night. I guess "we" are actually invading "their" space. lol

Hogs are not a native species.

Question: I'm totally ignorant about hunting. Why don't any of the hoggers on the TV shows just shoot the hogs with a gun? It seems like the way they do it is very time consuming and labor intensive.

I don't care for the hogs either, and no, they are not a native species. But, they were here long before any of the developments were. They are destructive by digging up yards at night, fortunately not mine.

Anyone for a pig roast?

I wonder if you could sue the developers if you could prove their digging up the land without removing the hogs first caused them to move into the neighborhoods. With all of the vacant lots around I am sure they would find plenty of places to live.

I don't know if developers are required to "move" hogs or not. They are not like gopher tortoises that create a home on the land and live there for 75 years. They can move and they are not native. It IS true that people are moving onto their land though. Widespread overbuilding and newer western communities are the problem, not the hogs. Places like Tradition developed like warts on what was agricultural land in just the past 10 years or so. Be careful around hogs, Florida wildlife, native or not, can be dangerous, it ain't no petting zoo out there. Hogs can charge, and kill, they are NOT friendly. One showed up in Palm City at the stable where I used to keep my horse, it was just a baby and was cute as it stayed in one pasture and ate the grain that the horses would drop. Then one day a dead mauled barn cat was found. End of baby hog, beginning of hog chili.
