My wife and I are in our mid 50's and are planning to move to SE Florida just as soon as our home sells on Long Island.

We love the beach and boating. I have been offered jobs in Melbourne as well as WPB/Boca. We can't make up our minds which way to go!

We have family and friends in WPB but the cost of living (housing) is just so much lower in Vero/Sebastian. Much more for the money.

Any thoughts???

THANKS!!!

My advice is Vero/Sebastian. It's a quieter area and there's plenty to do in Melbourne. Just north of Melbourne is a city called Viera. Becoming very popular with tons of famous restaurants and shoppes.

For me it would be a no-brainer ... Vero/Sebastian. Incredible beaches, great boating, and best fishing on the east coast of Fla.

oh yeah, the other thing..... houses cost less.

Apples to Oranges comparison but Vero is more like Alabama, WPB and PB County is more like Long Island and if you liked living in Long Island you will find Palm Beach County is full of people from that are....if your tired of it then definitely choose Vero but it's hard to say how long it will be so?

Red face Boca not what its cracked up to be

My parents moved from boca to sebastian 12 years ago and it had grown a lot and the sebastian/vero area offers everything one could need (using orlando airport only inconvenience, but small one in melbourne). My family and I moved to st augustine from boca last year, the $1000/month for taxes and insurance were just holding us down, I would definitely pick the melbourne area.

Thanks for your reply. I'm inclined to agree with you, however, we are just a little nerveous that the Vero/Sebastian area will not be as active as we are used to!

The WPB/Boynton area seems like a zoo - crowded and as my wife calls it: "concrete city". It seems great for business opportunity, though.

Don't group Boca and West Palm Beach into the same category, they're two entirely different cities.

West Boynton has nice homes but you're basically just going to be living with rude, annoying white people. Come on everyone on here complains about living with Hispanics but living with Anglos is not really what it's cracked up to be.

I would say Vero or Sebastian - quiet towns with still plenty to do - 1/2 hour drive to Melbourne from there. One hour to Cocoa Beach(North). 45 minutes south drive to PSL. One and a half hours drive to Orlando if you want all that is there.......

Alabama? I don't really follow you...Vero has been the same quiet town for quite some time. I wouldn't think it would ever turn into WPB area. I don't think there's an influx of Long Island people living in PBC, are there? I think NYers are kinda all spread out over the state...
