Hello.
I am an older lady, was retired, but now looking at going back to work as the cost of living rises and investment income plummets. I need to move to a warmer clime for health reasons. Had hoped to return to Cal., am currently on the west coast. However, Ca rents are still sky high. I have been researching Florida, and it doesn't seem very affordable either. If I find a place that is affordable, it seems the crime rate is high. Can anyone tell me what it would cost to rent a two bedroom, or even one bedroom apartment in the Vero Beach locality, in a safe area. I do need a yard, and would prefer a duplex, or townhouse, but would look at apartments that are one level, too. I am eligible for age restricted housing.
Many thanks.

So many variables. Do you drive? What kind of work? How far from the beach? Would you consider manufactured housing?

I am just needing a reply to my original question, which was what is the cost of a one or two bedroom duplex, townhse, or one level apartment in a safe area in the general locality of Vero Beach. In reply to your question about mobile homes, no I would not want a mobile home. In a state that gets hurricanes and tornadoes I think mobiles are a bad idea. Most fatalities from tornadoes are of people living in mobiles. But I hope this comment won't misdirect the thread. Just felt duty bound to make it.
Thank you.

Again, it's a varied area that encompasses all types of living arrangements. So, the answer would be $650 to $5000

Ever been to Orchid Island? I wasn't being facetious when I asked those questions. It makes it much easier knowing what you need and expect. It's hard to say there's an affordable unit for you without some parameters. But, anyway, you have a range. You'd have to do some research and make a visit to be reasonably sure it would work for you.

Hello, where in California do you live? I lived in Long Beach for 37 years and worked in LA for and OC. In 2008 I was laid off and we were paying 2,150 for a small (but upscale) townhome and new we wouldn't afford that the way the economy was headed. It was 1,250 sq ft btw. Anyway, my husbands work transferred us to Fl and we could live anywhere here. After careful research I decided on Vero Beach and Love It!!!

Even though all of my family and friends still live in Ca and my husband is out of town 80% of the time, our quality of life is soooo much better.

Crime rate is way lower, smog non-existent, traffic-none, people are very kind and friendly and I've been able to make friends, I feel safe here. There is everything I could want in the state with no traffic tie ups if I do have do drive somewhere.

We currently rent a 2,000 sq ft townhome w/ a ton of community ammenities such as a salt water pool (that no one uses!), a golf course, a club house you can dine at, our own urgent care, music events, centrally located to the mall, an outlet mall, the turnpike, 5 minutes from the beach and I have a beautiful lake in my front yard with turtles, ospreys and egrets every day to look at. It's peaceful and paradise-I would never move back to Cali.

There are a variety of housing and rents-try craigs list treasure coast but do it now not "in season" which is Nov thru May when prices triple.

Hope this helps!

Forgot to mention we only pay $1,000 per month and utilities are reasonable plus that includes our HOA. Now I don't have to work!
