We've seen houses we like in west PSL and Delray near 95. We've vacationed in Fla but never for more than 10 days.
Has anyone heard of recent street flooding or bad drinking water?
The homes we've seen allow for walking to a restaurant etc. or just a long walks.
We can easily secure employment at either location, so we can't use that as a tie breaker.
Since we're moving soon, we'd like to get a sense of what it's like from locals.
We'd like living in a community that has mixed ages with diverse and accepting people. HELP

It kind of depends on what you are looking at for comparison.

I personally think of Delray Beach/Boynton as being 65 and older for the most part now.. as I recall being hit in the heels by their grocery cart in Publix as I was shopping for an older friend. .....

check the demographics.. and go down to the other forum for that area

This area has been prone to many near misses from storms over the years but rarely gets a direct hit. In 2008 PSL was hit by a big flood and some neighborhoods flooded. Go to youtube and search for tropical storm fay Port St lucie 2008 and you will get an idea.

We have been waffling back and forth about getting flood insurance since it is more likely we would have to suffer a direct hit by at least a cat 4 or higher storm in order to flood in our area (which I believe has never happened) but our part of town was cut off by floods in other neighborhoods for several days. I think this year because it has been so warm we are going to get it. It is very cheap to get.

Down toward Delray you have better odds of getthing hit with a storm but if you are west of 95 it is less likely that you will flood. As for areas, Delray is more developed than PSL but PSL has more potiential for growth and rising property values than Delray. The difference would really depend on what your idea of the word convenience is. In Delray shopping is close but traffic is a problem. The opposite is true in PSL. Good luck.
