I live in Miami and plan within the next few months to buy a one or a two bedroom condo in Vero that I can rent for the next 6 years or so and then retire to. I'm curious how lifestyle differs between the oceanside of the river and the mainland (restaurants, clubs, shopping, parks). Also, I am curious if there are bad areas in Vero to avoid? I've heard great things about the town and am looking forward to a slower pace than here in Miami.

No bad places on the barrier island which has an ocean side and a river side. You'll have to figure higher insurance costs than the mainland. The riverfront on the mainland is also very nice. Shops and dining in both areas. Box and department stores a few miles west on rt.60. A few areas on the mainland are a little shady, but nothing like the less desirable areas of Miami.
