I am certain Costco wants to be in St. Lucie County as it’s obviously in demand. Palm City was a stab at capturing the market but let’s be serious, Costco can’t garnish favorable terms if the city on the other hand is having its coffers bankrolled by the competition. It’s a tricky situation to be in, but it’s in it. Costco comes in, Walmart moves out. Fully legal, and Costco knows better. So the city can beg all it wants, but Costco has literally proposed being 1 exit out of the county and it’s alternative is literally down the street.

It’s important to note that even though it’s a bridge, Costco’s new site selection is literally 1 block outside of Palm City. So literally Palm City shot itself on the foot by crying about traffic at High Meadows and the Turnpike. So now, instead, traffic will traverse the entirety of Palm City and the city won’t see 1 red cent of tax revenue. If I were a resident of Palm City I’d be crying for Costco to come back. The irony of it all.

But the plot thickens. The site on the Northwest Corner of Indian Street and Kanner Highway is in unincorporated Martin County. A google maps view exposes that the boundary of the City of Stuart is Kanner Highway itself. So in reality Costco is planning to build across the street from the City of Stuart (notice the trend again). So the current scenario is this. Costco will direct all of it's tax revenue to Martin County while silencing the voices of Palm City and Stuart and placing the entire traffic burden on cities that will see no benefit. Just a few blocks further from where it really wants to be is a small price to pay for the ultimate goal of entering a market dominated by Walmart.

Of course, as this becomes more obvious Palm City is going to get pissed off and up and arms but as the story starts to become clearer and they begin to understand they have no say, I am willing to bet that High Meadows will come back on the table because it makes no sense to take take the burden and not reap the reward. And if it does Costco may go for it not because it cares much for Palm City, but because we all know Costco's real interest on the Treasure Coast is both it's most populous City and County. However, the truth of the matter is that Costco hit a gold mine with that site. The effect of moving to that site is minimal in terms of reach into Port St. Lucie and Costco wins either way. It's a well played move and one any successful business should be playing.

I’m headed to California in 2 weeks and all I can think about is food. I’ll add Del Taco to the list. Haha.

Good grief, I thought I was the only one who did that! I can't wait to go to Georgia this summer and hit every Bojangle's restaurant I can find.

Yes, and please bring back some In-N-Out of the rest of us. Wish they would open up over here as well. Unfortunately they do not franchise.

Since food is very popular here in St. Lucie County and the rest of the Treasure Coast as we can see by the large crowds at each restaurant. It would be nice to utilize one of these empty big box stores that have recently closed and open a large food court with all different vendors serving all different type of foods. That would reduce the cost of the individual vendors since they will be only renting a smaller space and allows them to market to wider audience in a confined area.

Looks like there doing something similar in Delray Beach:
Food Hall coming to former Condo Site

Quote:
Giants in restaurants and real estate are teaming up to create an enclosed food hall the size of a football field in downtown Delray Beach.
Restaurateur Dennis Max and real estate developer Craig Menin are planning the Delray City Market, a 30,000-square foot food hall at 33 SE Third Ave., half a block south of sizzling Atlantic Avenue.

The food hall will be part of a larger building, a 120,000-square-foot, four-story property. About 200 parking spaces on a three-level garage will be in the building, which also will feature a 3,000-square-foot rooftop community garden.

Max said the goal is to create “an arcade” of different food choices to please everyone, from pizza to pasta to gourmet food vendors. Space would be available also for wine and craft beer vendors.

Culver's is better than In-N-Out and they opened a location in Tradition.
