It occurs to me that a wonderful place to watch a meteor shower (like the Leonids this weekend) would be on the beach, looking out to the ocean sky. Do all the beaches officially close at dark along the Treasure Coast, or are there any stretches of beach available to stargazers ?

I've gone out a few times at night this summer looking for sea turtles nesting, and it's always busy out there. I've never known any beach to "close"- but if there are rules, they aren't enforced at all.

We always go to the Stuart beach area, and the parking lot is lit. Make sure you park in a well-lit and open location and bring a heavy flashlight.

Thanks, that is encouraging news ! I just seem to remember seeing a sign at Vero Beach saying the beach was closed after dark (I assume the public area, though aren't most of the beaches public in the area ?).

If you want to treat yourself, go to the Disney Resort at Vero. You can have a few drinks in the Green Cabin Room and then go out on the deck or the beach.

some people that want to get away from the lights of city head way west instead - although I would probably prefer to sit on the beach with a bottle of wine without mosquitos and gators! lol!
