My husband and I are possibly looking at FLA for retirement a few years down the road.

Sounds like a nice, smallish town, which is what we want.

Can anyone shed light on how hot Vero Beach gets vs. somewhere further north like Fernandina Beach, another area we are considering.

Fernandina Beach is next to GA...a whole different world up there. If you look here, these are the average temps:

Thanks for the info. More concerned about the humidity and how that affects the heat which is something not easily discerned from tables like these.

Is Vero unbearably hot and humid all year - meaning walk outside and can cut the air with a knife humid? Does the humidity last all day? Do the ocean breezes temper the heat?

This up coming summer take a trip to Florida for a few weeks between May through October, temps will be in the high 80's to low 90's with humidity levels with about the same numbers. If you enjoy the heat and humidity Florida is your place.if not then its back to the drawing board.Seems some love the heat and humidity others hate it,find out what you like before going to the time and expense of making a move to a place you may or may not like for weather and other reasons.

Vero is very tolerable. The winters are damn near perfect, and the summers are not that bad. Although I feared I wouldn't be able to take the summer weather, I became acclimated rather quickly and was surprised that anyone thinks it's so bad.

the weather in this area is pretty stable all the time. The main reason is that the Gulf Stream (the warm water current that runs through the oceans) is pretty close to our shores.

Just above us it starts to veer away from us and head more towards the SC and NC area. One of the reasons the hurricanes head that way-- they are following the warm waters that feed them.

As you go further north, it gets colder and the temps change more than in this area.
