Hi,

I'm looking into cataract surgery for my mother; we're still in the stage of getting recommendations on doctors.

Has anyone used Dr. Zudans of FL Eye Institute on Indian River Blvd.? Beyond, any comments on technical expertise, is he a patient doctor?

Thanks,
Lori

Go to the Bascom Palmer Eye institute in Palm Beach Gardens. It might be far from where you live - but they are the best in the country and you want to be very careful with your eyes or your mom's eyes.

Thanks, Meezermama for mentioning Bascom. I thought of it, but due to the distance it's just too far to take an elderly person for several trips.

I absolutely wish to be careful with her eyes, but was under the impression that cataract surgery was pretty much standard fare these days. I know with any surgery there can be complications; there just seem to be few with this type of surgery.

The FL Eye Institute in Vero Beach is about a 30 minutes drive, so very doable. Hopefully, someone has had experience with doctors at this location.

I used to work at The Lighthouse for the Blind in New Orleans and heard directly from clients and heard a few stories about cataract surgery gone wrong. I recall one particularly bad case where a lady went to a popular Dr. to have her cataracts removed. The lady later learned after the mishap that the Dr. turned over the operation to a student who kept the laser on too long and burned a hole into her eye ball. She is now totally blind in one eye. On the other hand my wife had both of hers done and there were no complications whatsoever.

They're very good and have a good reputation. My wife and I see Dr. Todd and she has treated my wife's glaucoma with great success.

How did the lady discover that the doctor turned the surgery over to a student?

The Dr. tried to explain how the accident happened and admitted he did not perform the operation.

My Father went to Dr Mallonee in Dec, he had both cataracts done (one week apart), and was very happy with the surgery and aftercare. I can't think of the name of the practice but it's on Hillmore Dr, PSL and the aftercare was on Virginia Ave, Ft Pierce. GL.

Hope she sued. Clearly malpractice by breach of standard of care.

This is by far the best place to any work done on your eyes.
