Am I correct that outdoor Bermuda/Bahama Shutters that are adjustable are not permitted in Port St Lucie county? The front of my house faces south and I have three double windows that let in too much heat from the sun. I like the look of the Bermuda shutters but seem to remember finding out there is a good reason I can't find these for sale. I do not like the look of the old clam shell styles but have to admit they worked. I do not want to replace the screw in metal panels for hurricane protection necessarily but I do want to cut down the heat. Thermal curtains? , Will Plantation shutters keep out the heat, they look nice but are they functional.

I cannot comment on the shutters but ... To cut down on the heat we have been tinting our windows.

I have included a picture. I buy them from Lowes or Home Depot.

Now you are talking, I imagine there are varying levels of tint, ie heat control

The plantation shutters are effective and very functional. They can be rather expensive though. Especially if you have arched windows and have them custom made.

The OP is referring to outside shutters which are Bahama shutters and not the inside shutters which are Plantations.

We had a professional come and tint some of our windows. I would do it myself but it would end up being screwed up and by the time I got it right it would have cost more.

We installed window tint in our previous house and it is not hard but does test one's marriage.
I will give it a try again as soon as my knee operation= today, heals.

I want to investigate more attic insulation and a positive way to exhaust the hot air. I can see some pink insulation. I was told by a DIY neighbor that more is not necessarily better since it packs down and you loose the insulation quality of the trapped air layers. I definitely need to find a trustworthy person to evaluate and resolve attic insulation. Still like Bermuda outside shutters and wonder if they are outlawed as a possible threat during hurricanes if they come off. I really would like to know if they are illegal so I can move on to Plan B
