We are trying to keep our options open, but we are very close to making the decision to buy a house in Vero Beach (Indian River Heights). Sebastian is also an option for us. It appears to be a great place for a couple of old people like us to retire to! I think we'll have to settle for a little less home than some other areas, but we think it may be worth it.

In any case, we would appreciate some info on the homeowners insurance costs for a $150K home. Obviously, we'll be on the mainland 10 or 15 blocks west of Route 1.

THANKS!!!

Consider getting insurance quotes for the addresses you are considering buying. You may find two places in the same area have very different insurance costs. For instance, if one house is in a flood zone, the flood insurance could be $5000 per year while a house not in a flood zone won't need flood insurance. A house built in 2003 may only pay 2/3 s as much in wind insurance as one built in 1970.

In Florida you may need home owners, wind and if in a flood zone - flood insurance and some places may need sink hole coverage. Please realize that insurance costs can be significant in Florida. Horror stories about $24000 flood insurance are true http://www.sunshinestatenews.com/sto...€™s-new-normal. Make sure you know insurance costs before you make an offer.
