I need recommendations for an excellent accordion shutter installer in Indian River County for our new house. I would prefer recommendations to come from homeowners in the area who have actually purchased such systems here and used them for at least a year or two.

I'm really sold on the usefulness of having them if one lives in coastal Florida. Besides warding off hurricane damage, they provide an additional impediment to break-ins when one is away.

Our installer at a previous house in this area (Gulfstream in Stuart) did an outstanding job for us in 2011, but when I got on the web this morning to see if it was still in business, I learned to my dismay that it had closed without warning, stranding fifty employees without notice, and leaving high and dry many customers who had deposited thousands of dollars but never received the product they contracted for.

That cautionary tale duly noted, Here are the firms I found on a web search this morning -- not necessarily complete:

Impact Windows (Port St Lucie)
Florida Window and Door (Palm Beach Gardens)
Florida Shutters (Vero Beach)
Titan Building Solutions (West Palm Beach)
Shoreline Shutters (Sebastian)

We used Expert Shutters in Port Saint Lucie about three years ago, I got four bids/presentations and I found Expert Shutters to be the best from what I had looked at . Since then they have done shutters on 4 or five townhomes in my community as well ...

We used Storm Barrier Shutters in Vero Beach. We've had the accordion shutters for a little over a year but haven't actually had to use them yet. I agree that they are far better than installing temporary shutters with a storm bearing down, and a lot less expensive than impact glass windows. We were satisfied with their service and price. Their office phone number is 772-234-4359.

Many thanks to newred5 and SeaLark7 for their recommendations. I'll definitely look into the two vendors they mentioned.

Not sure if they're still around. But Coastal was excellent for me. Shutters have been everything they said.

I've used Florida Shutters out of Vero on two occasions; once for service on existing shutters, and a new

installation on our existing home....they are a top notch company.
